A large crowd gathered here in Byford this morning to take part in a moving
ceremony joining with the others being held in towns and cities across Australia to acknowledge the service of our veterans
who died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity and pulling together.

With warm sunny weather and a crowd of approximately 600 people at the Serpentine Camping Centre, Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire celebrated Australia Day with awards, activities and entertainment.
The popular event had something for everyone. A free breakfast from 7.30am kick started the celebrations with a didgeridoo player, spinners group and fly past entertaining the crowd. Welcome to Country took place at 9am to an attentive crowd, followed by the anticipated awards and citizenship ceremonies.
The swimming pool provided people with the opportunity to cool down after they raced up the climbing wall, soared across the flying fox and competed with friends at mini golf. Everyone enjoyed the Heritage Country Choir and Wandering Minstrels.
While the activities continued throughout the morning, the much anticipated Australia Day award winners were announced and citizenship ceremonies took place. This year, three people became Australian citizens at the Australia Day ceremony. Shire President Sheila Twine said that the awards and citizenship ceremony are a highlight every year, and this year was no different.
